Snow Days
There are provisions in our contract concerning snow days/bad weather/closures. See Article VI, Section 8
If we have late starts due to weather, etc., you have the right to come into work when school opens. If you choose to do this, you are responsible for making up those missed hours or for taking emergency leave. You need to talk to your supervisor and make arrangements for making up the time or fill out your emergency leave request when you get to school. Many of the classified staff come in at their regular starting times when there is a late start. If you do this, be sure to check in with the school secretary or your supervisor so they know you are at work at your normal time.Snow Days Will Mean Extended School Year
Relaxing snow days in January translates into a longer school year in June. of the snow days must be made up at the end of the year. Here is how the school calendar looks as of today.Makeup Days:
May 29 — Originally set aside as a makeup day (if needed) is now a school day.
June 15 — Formerly the last day of school (half day); now a Full Day of school.
June 18 — Makeup Day for Jan. 18.
June 19 — Makeup Day for Jan. 19.
June 20 — Makeup Day for Jan. 20; now the last day of school (half-day only).

About "Day 261":
In some years, calendar quirks cause one day that is normally scheduled as a work day to be the 261st work day on a 260-day calendar. Our Collective Bargaining Agreement - and the School District's budget - call for a negotiation to determine which day will be declared "Day 261." Day 261 does not affect less-than-12-month classified employees. Based on agreements with OHSD,The 261st day for the 2010-2011 School Year was Wednesday, December 29, 2010.
The 261st and 262nd days for the 2011-2012 School Year will beThursday, July 5, 2012 and Friday, July 6, 2012. If you're counting - that's a 5-day weekend!
- Remember:
- Day 261 is a day that 260-day employees do not work. It's just an accounting 'thing.'
- Not working those days has no impact on paychecks.
- There was no Day 261 in Calendar Year 2011.
- There are Day 261 and Day 262 in Calendar Year 2012. You can do the math.
- If you find this confusing, print the page and enter your questions in this box: Please write legibly.
