While leave without pay is granted to employees, it is approved on a case-by-case basis by Mellody Matthes. The criteria for granting this leave include medical leave, an event such as a birth, graduation, or 50-year anniversary, or other once-in-a-lifetime event, the impact of the employee's absence, and the length of the absence. Anyone requesting such leave must get a signature of approval from Human Resources. Your building supervisor's signature on the leave-without-pay-request shows just that the request has been received. Only a signature from HR shows that the leave without pay has been approved.
